Yes. The City of Vancouver Transportation Survey is an initiative led by the City of Vancouver. The survey is being conducted on their behalf by an independent research firm, R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd.

Canada-based research firm R. A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. will conduct the survey on behalf of the participating government agencies.

The survey period takes place between September and December 2023. Future updates to the survey will take place in subsequent years.

Participation in the survey is voluntary.

While voluntary, your participation is important. The few minutes you take to participate will have a big impact by representing the travel choices and travel patterns for residents in your area.

Survey participants are asked about their household, demographics, transportation-related attributes, as well as specific trip-level information.

The information gathered by the survey will help the City of Vancouver make decisions on transportation planning and investments. Your survey data will remain confidential and will only be analyzed when combined with the information of other participants.

Your input will help to:

• Track the travel mode share and number of trips for the nine transportation zones in the City;
• Assess the average annual vehicle-kilometres travelled (VKT) by City residents; and
• Determine factors that have contributed to changes in travel behaviour and travel patterns.

City of Vancouver residents who are 18 years of age or older and participating in the Vancouver Transportation panel are eligible to participate. City of Vancouver residents are those who have a home address in the City of Vancouver.

Online, the survey takes approximately 10-25 minutes to complete depending on your situation and your answers.

Yes, residents who do not travel are just as important as those who do. Your survey answers will help build a snapshot of the travel patterns of the population as a whole, including people who did not travel on the day for which travel information is being provided. Your participation will ensure that the survey reflects the make-up of the general population.

Yes. To make an appointment to be interviewed please phone 1-855-688-1131. Please leave a voicemail that includes the date and time as well as your household's secure access code, found on the survey invitation letter.

Yes. Click on the survey login button to begin your survey. The survey can be accessed by entering your secure access code, which can be found on the letter you received in the mail.

If you have received a survey invitation and are unable to complete the survey, please phone 1-855-688-1131 or email info@vantripsurvey.ca and we will arrange for assistance to ensure that you are able to participate.

Surveys can be completed online in English only. Surveys may be completed by phone interview in other languages.

You can participate in two ways:

1. You may choose to fill out the survey online by signing in on the home page using the secure access code provided on the first page of the letter (or email) you received. If you begin the survey online and require assistance, we also provide phone-in support between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sundays at 1-855-688-1131.
2. Phone: You may also choose to give us a call at 1-855-688-1131 during those same hours and one of our professional interviewers will be happy to conduct the survey with you over the telephone.

Your privacy is important to us. The 2023 City of Vancouver Transportation Survey information is protected under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. When reporting survey results, survey data is combined with other responses in the area and cannot be traced back to an individual or household.

One of the goals of this annual survey is to understand and track changes in Vancouver residents' travel patterns over time. Participants who consent to being re-contacted will be invited to complete a short follow-up survey next year. If you consent to be contacted in next year's follow-up survey, your contact information and linked survey responses will be retained by the City of Vancouver until the next survey. Your survey responses will be stored securely and your contact information will only be used to contact you for the follow-up survey.
